Premiership Prediction – Liverpool v Blackburn

Premier league prediction for Liverpool v Blackburn [12:45] on the 11th April 2009. With only seven games remaining this season, the pressure is on to pick up as many points as possible. Liverpool are chasing for the their first title in 18 years and Blackburn are looking to secure their spot in the Premiership next season.

Liverpool are looking strong at the moment, despite being beaten at home in the Champions League against Chelsea last Wednesday. How much that game has knocked their confidence will be evident in this game. Blackburn have won two of their last three away games and picked up two good wins away to Fulham and Hull.

Liverpool’s last six league home games:
5-0 Aston Villa [W]
2-0 Sunderland [W]
1-1 Man City [D]
2-0 Chelsea [W]
1-1 Everton [D]
3-0 Bolton [W]

Blackburn’s last six league away games:
4-0 Arsenal [L]
1-2 Fulham [W]
1-2 Hull [W]
2-1 Man United [L]
0-0 Middlesbrough [D]
0-0 Sunderland [D]

Liverpool have won this fixture eight times since the Premiership started, there have been five draws and only one Blackburn win at Anfield dating back to December 1993. This seasons reverse game between these two sides ended with a 3-1 to Liverpool.

Liverpool should have close to a full side to choose from, possibly with the second leg of their Champions League game in mind this coming Tuesday. Blackburn will be without Roque Santa Cruz, Brett Emerton and Steven Reid with long term injuries. There are also doubts over Jason Roberts, Vincenzo Grella and Mort Gamst Pedersen.

Losing to Chelsea on Wednesday is bound to have knocked Liverpool’s confidence, I’m not sure that I can completely back them for the title this season, but I cannot see them losing hope this weekend. Blackburn are a difficult side to break down when they are organised. Sam Allardyce will be looking to avoid a performance similar to that away at Arsenal. I can see them sitting back and looking to hit Liverpool on the counter.

Prediction: 2-0
